The Idiot is another one of Dostoevsky's books that says, "Yeah, I kick the Russian language's ass." He pumped out another epic book that redefined literature. People read this book and ignored one fact, nothing happens. The beginning has action. The ending has action. The middle is boring. For 3/5 of the story all of the action is talking. Don't get me wrong the battle between a saint's ability to restore idealism in a society that is innately base and seeks to destroy said saint is mentally stimulating (I wrote a ten page thesis on that), but a little action never hurt anyone (Well, physically yes, but in terms of moving the plot along, no). The far reaches of the book are intense, but the center drug on and on and on. This will stimulate some thought, but be prepared for a challenge; The middle's monotony.

OVERALL: 9/10
