The Overview: 9/10

The majority of the book is about a man who has murdered two people with an ax. He then tries to conceal his crime while dealing with the engagement of his sister, the death of an official he knew, falling in love, and a detective who he thinks is tormenting him.

How it Works: 10/10

Dostoevsky does a great job of making the reader feel concerned for a murderer. Despite the crime he is still the hero of the book. He breaks down the psychology behind crime and criminals to show how easily Raskolnikov convinced himself to murder the old lady. The book may not be the most exciting read but it is good regardless.

The End: 9/10

The ending is weird because it goes against the main character's thoughts all along. He makes a decision that isn't suprising on the surface but if you read the book you might think otherwise.

OVERALL: 9/10

A definite read.
